Speaking of Lindbergh, back when the world was normal and folks had more respect and self-control which allowed them more freedom, visitors to the nation's capital could get close to objects of historic value.
Years ago I visited the old Smithsonian Building that looks like a castle which then contained not only Lindbergh's 1927 "Spirit of St. Louis" plane but also the Wright Brothers' 1903 "Flyer," the world's first powered airplane which resembled a glorified box kite with wings. The Liberty Bell was also there at that time. Visitors were allowed to touch the bell and could even hit it gently with their ring to hear its tone. The two planes were suspended above the floor and I found I could jump up and actually touch the bottom of each plane - which I did.
But now, because of vandalism and terrorism, no one can touch the bell which is now in a protected spot in Philadelphia. And those two famous planes are now suspended in the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, but no one can touch them unless they are at least 100 feet tall!
Thanks for your stimulating blog which is always interesting and much needed.
One of your readers, ArthurAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8196357958039257138.post-45311284549937712552012-02-18T08:49:48.953-08:002012-02-18T08:49:48.953-08:00Will America ever learn anything? Your fine articl...Will America ever learn anything? Your fine article shows that we, as a nation, still have the same old hooey (and back-stabbing subversives) lurking all over the place. Lindbergh sure put his finger on the main problems and trouble makers. And guess what. The biggest trouble makers, who had inordinate power in cinema, the press etc. (as above quotation above brings out) before and during World War II are still with us, more powerfully and openly and arrogantly than ever before, and pose an even greater threat to an America which constantly gets roped into fighting everyone else's wars! For example, preacher John Hagee would be hilarious if the US, or Israel, were to launch a pre-emptive strike against Iran, as if that would solve all of our national problems. I keep looking for Bible verses supporting Hagee's obsession but can't find a single one! If anyone else can find any such verses, I invite him or her to share them on this blog. Thanks, Brother Joe, for keeping us on the straight and narrow which "few" find because they choose the "broad" way that leads to "destruction" (Matthew 7:13-14).
DebbieAnonymousnoreply@blogger.com
